27th April 2008
Kite buggying - boarding: Les Hemmes
Wind Direction: S-ish
Wind Stength: 5-15mph
Surf / Sea State:
Air Temperature: 15
Sea Temperature:
Weather: Cloudy and Sunny
Max Speed: 36.5mph (knots - unless stated otherwise)
Distance Covered: 30.6miles (Nautical Miles - unless stated otherwise)

Forecast was southerly with 100% cloud cover and potentially some drizzle. We arrived at the landyacht club to a light southerly wind, this built as we put the buggies together, started off on the 5.5m towing Fiona in the tandem. We got some high speed runs on a very good hard beach, we decided to do a run to Calais, there was hard sand pretty much all the way there (whereas in the past it had got soft from the water tower). We got all the way to the old hoverport then had a run back, a few issues in the soft sand but not a bad run. Had some more runs without the tandem and got a top speed of 36.5mph. Stopped for lunch. It was a bit windier after lunch, started on the 5.5m again and the tandem and got some good speeds of over 30mph. Messed about a bit for the camera and then the wind began to die, ended up becalmed a way from home, sat round for a bit waiting for wind to return, when it did it came back from the north (180 degrees from where it had been) so had a few more runs but it was very light. Some Germans were doing some weird gybe turns where you turn the buggy through 540 degrees and swing the kite round upwind of you, you start off on a reach, do a downturn and turn the buggy through 540 degrees keeping the kite 10ft off the deck all the way round. I had a go at a few but crashed the kite when it was upwind of me, you need to be going about 3 times the windspeed to make it but I will be trying some
next time I am on a big kite. Packed up and headed for home at about 6pm.
